This is the first in a series of things that I believe deserves some attention - safety - in particular, child safety. Now most of us parents will distinctly remember when we were kids and how our parents keep us "safe" in the car. Sleeping in the back of a station wagon on top of all the luggage was my personal favorite. Nowadays, kids have to be in car seats of one type or another until they're 8 or 9.
So, during my son's first week of school I arrived to pick him up and forgot the car seat. I had a couple of choices, but the one I opted for was to strap him into the seatbelt in the back seat and tell him not to move around to much. We got home just fine. If there had been an accident, it wouldn't have been good, but there wasn't. I'm not suggesting that this is what I plan to do all the time, but really, wasn't this safe enough.
